- Archival Photo Print

3,000.00 – 30,000.00

The Nottingham photographer Samuel Bourne has photographed the landscape of the ships docked as seen from Fort William. In 1717, the Mughal Emperor Farrukhsiyar permitted the East India Company to trade in Calcutta for a certain sum of money. This was the very beginning of trade flourishing on the banks of Hoogly also known as Hugli. The river became an important route by which ships carried goods to and fro. Export import became important and the ghats of the river became key embarking points.
