Sailor’s Home, (Code 125)

- Archival Photo Print

3,000.00 – 30,000.00

During the 19th and 20th centuries most port cities across the world had boarding houses for mariners, which included sailors and officers. These were temporary arrangements for the seamen when their ships were docked. An organization named, ‘The Sailor’s Home’ made these arrangements for the officers and the ordinary crew members, specifically in the British Mercantile Marine or British Merchant Marine. These mariners sailed through inhospitable weather for months on end and are said to have contributed in no small measure to enhancing the commerce of the British Empire.
