The Jain Temple in Calcutta is also known as the Parshwanath Temple, as it is dedicated to Parshwanath, the 23rd Jain Tirthankar.  It is located in Badridas Temple Street, Gouribari, Maniktala in the north of the city.  Although it is for Jain worshippers, the temple is visited people from all religious callings. Built by a Jain, Rai Badridas Bahadoor Mookim in 1867, it was blessed by Shri Kalyansurishwarji Maharaj. Jainism believes in eternal dharma with tirthankaras guiding the time cycle of the cosmos and its faith in non-violence, non-absolutism, and asceticism. The Jain temple has four complexes built within its perimeter. The main shrine was built to worship Shitalanatha, the tenth Tirthankar. The 24 tirthankaras of the Jain religion are supreme preachers of Dharma. The deity of Shitalnathji has a diamond studded forehead and a lamp that burns continually, which attracts visitors.
