Old Court House Street Looking South, (Code 099)

- Archival Photo Print

3,000.00 – 30,000.00

The view of the southern end of Old Court House Street, from the north-east corner of the grounds of the Governor’s House, looks towards the Maidan and shows the classical-designed premises of various businesses on the east side of the street. It became the nerve centre of silversmiths in India. The Old Court House Street is a treasure trove of stories from the past era of colonial Kolkata. Constructed around 1781, Old Court House Street was laid down by Colonel Henry Watson, who was responsible for bringing in several improvements in the city, including the laying out of the surrounding Esplanade Row.
