Cossipore, also known as Kashipur, is a located in the northern suburbs of Calcutta. The Garden House at Cossipore or the Cossipore Udayan bati is a two storied house in a classical design with a spacious garden giving it a very elegant look. The area is one of the oldest parts of Calcutta.  Cossipore was recognised by the Municipal Corporation of Calcutta in 1888. Other than picturesque houses by the river, Cossipore also had some important industries; to name a few, the Government Gun Foundry, and Snider and Rifle Shell factories.
