In the 1870s, the Cox brothers owned the Camperdown Pressing Company in the suburb of Calcutta known as Cossipore. It was a jute pressing company. The Cox brothers were from Dundee in Scotland. They were jute and hemp spinners and also made and supplied yarn, twine, bags, sacks, hessian, and tarpaulin all around the world. All these items were in high demand so they had a good hold on the global market. The jute industry was mostly in Calcutta and Bangladesh. Today there is no British involvement but what they left behind in that area is now the architectural legacy of Calcutta, a heritage site for visitors.
